After years of searching I have finally found a picture of Inspector Thomas Roots, than man from the Criminal Investigation Dept who spoke to George Marsh and Robert D’Onston Stephenson. The man who wrote, what is now termed, the Roots Report. The man who was sent to Gateshead during the Gateshead Tragedy. The picture is alongside other notables including Inspector John George Littlechild!! |

I wonder if you know anything about an old road in Sutton Park called “Front Factory Line” ? I think that it may have been a residential area that was built for Cotton Mill workers. You seem to have a vast local knowledge and may know something of this area. Thank you for reading this. Felicity.

Hi Felicity, I will find out for you and let you know. I am under the impression “Front Factory Line” had something to do with the former railway, but will double check and get in touch.
